Arlene Hebert, author of Angels in Training, Twin Angels School,described how she became a writer of children's books of imagination and encouragement. During her years as an RN, doing hospital work, she had an inspirational moment where she would write children's books and donate the sales proceeds to St Jude’s Childrens Hospital. The process of writing has led her to great satisfaction (6 completed books) and new purpose in life.

Our newest member was welcomed to the club. Jacques Royal acted as sponser in lieu of Bernard de Reynies, the actual sponser who recently returned to France.

Our business meeting began with a demonstration of our new Pinhook Rotary web site. Tom DeVilbiss pointed out features that members might find useful. Next on the agenda was a treasurer's report. Members received a full accounting, including income from dues, and fund raisers, as well as expenses and donations for projects and charities. It was desided to move our c.d. to another bank paying a higher interest. Some budget items were deferred to the board of directors.

finally, old and new business included Polio irradication project, LEMU, Haiti relief,and a project for community action (grafitti cleanup)

Better Business Bureau of Acadiana
Connie Marcantel from the Better Business Bureau of Acadiana, presented for the club. She described how the BBB rated businesses that participated, what benifits were for consumers and businesse alike, and other interesting facts about her organization. The BBB provides despute arbitration and rates businesses according to nuimber of desputes, and desputes resolved.

It was also announced that a general club meeting would occur on January 18 with a demonstration of how to get maximum use from the new club web site. Also on the agenda is election of a new member. The club secretary tresurer will discuss the budget and club members will vote on budgetary decisions.

Meeting 4 Jan 2010
The first meeting of 2010 was held on January forth. The speaker was Bili LaCompt, director of Faith House. Faith House is a non-profit organization that provides emergency shelter for battered women and children. Though housed in Lafayette Parish, it also serves the needs of the surrounding area. Ms LaCompt gave descriptions of services provided, how Faith House was funded, and how volunteers to work with clients were welcomed. She also said that articles of clothing and other items that could be used in the shelter would be appreciated.

Donates roll away Bed


Al Pfeuffer offered a folding, roll away bed, that Ms LaCompt said would be excellent for the facility. Other members inquired about volunteering.

On a sad note, Mike Sullivan, former Pinhook Rotary president(1990-91)passed away and his memorial service was to be had this day.
